How exciting it was to finally encounter the indigo bunting firsthand in nature. But my excitement only rose as my eyes focused in on not one little bunting, but ten indigo buntings! A bright blue wave swept up into the trees as they took to flight from the forest floor. I usually encounter these buntings locally in Naples foraging in seed-laden grasses at a nearby park. With happy songs, my neighbors and friends are greeted as the buntings visit their bird feeders. Their most familiar song reminds me of a squeaky tricycle wheel, especially when there are several singing together. The bunting in the painting is on a Barbados Pride Tree which is why I titled this painting “Naples Pride”.
