Have you ever witnessed the amazing ritual, the courtship dance of a great blue heron couple? It’s an incredible experience watching them in what I call “Rhythm and Blues”, as they jab and dip then peck and dodge with their dagger-like beaks in a seemingly choreographed number. Then they out stretch their lanky necks showing off their downy, multi colored collar of feathers. The ritual also includes a practical aspect as they build their nest stick by stick. Then their silky feathers ruffle in the sunlight as they embrace to create their next generation.
