The Northern Parula (pronounced PAR-a-la) is a wood warbler who is active in in the mid and upper tree canopy, where it gleans for insects. Breeding males sing two types of primary songs. One is an ascending thrill with a separated terminal note and the other consists of a series of buzzy notes. I usually hear the Paula’s Twitter before I see him.
