The red shouldered hawk is a handsome bird with a red petticoat and rust-colored underpants. It is one of my favorite hawks. He usually perches low to hunt; scanning for small mammals, reptiles, large insects, and snails. He poses so determined in this painting, I’m sure he will have a stroke of success because he sure has his eye on his subject matter.
